Reid Miles, the Design Genius of Jazz

The album covers for the jazz record company Blue Note introduced the world to style, as they pioneered many of the graphic design trends which are still being used today. Frequently overlooked, the covers often evoke as much feeling as the music itself. Using very deep and sometimes quirky imagery, the photographs were often taken by Francis Wolff, the labels boss, and Reid Miles. Reid Miles designed over 500 record sleeves for Blue Note within a 15 year span. He is truly one of the fore fathers of typography. Please enjoy some of my favorite record sleeve designs below.

  1. Thank you for sharing this ! If you love jazz you certainly know some good jazz clubs (where musicians are welcome, listeners can find a real atmosphere, a good program…). Why not sharing your good addresses with us ?
    Thank you !
